Wynyard Quarter is an area of approximately 35 hectares of reclaimed land known as the “Western Reclamation” located at the western edge of the Auckland CBD. The reclamation was completed in 1931 and was initially occupied by marine activities, timber trade, and bulk petrochemical storage.
The fundamental character of Wynyard Quarter is not established by existing buildings or their scale, but by the essential qualities of the peninsula of flat land, wharf, relationship to the harbour and elements that have survived which evoke that character.
Archifact-architecture & conservation ltd was commissioned to provide an objective opinion to assist an appeal of the development controls in Plan Change 4 and to establish a distraction in controls for heritage above and beyond character buildings.
