Project Brief
- Condition survey, identifying defects for remediation.
- Preparation of repair methodologies.
Heritage Values & Background
- Date of Construction: 1907.
- The present Remuera Station was completed in November 1907, replacing an earlier building that became a library for workshop staff. A steady drop in parcel and passenger freight to and from the station saw its closure as an officered station in 1942. The building is closed but the station platform remains open for passengers.
- The station and signal box reflect the influence of New Zealand Railways architect George Alexander Troup (1863-1941) as well-preserved examples of the ‘Troup period’ of railway building.
- The station building is timber construction with rusticated weatherboards, gabled roof, and verandas on both track-side elevations. The roof is clad with Marseilles tile and features two brick chimneys. The verandas have corrugated iron roofs supported by decorative cast-iron brackets (being curved railway tracks).
