- Seismic strengthening and remediation of the Clark Boarding House, with a new addition and adaptive re-use as a childcare centre.
Heritage Values & Background
- Date of Construction: Unknown (either late-1880s or 1902-1910).
- In 1854, Rice Owen Clark became the area’s first European settler and established a pottery to meet the local demand for drainage pipes, with the ‘R.O. Clark Pottery’ factory founded in 1864.
- The former Clark Boarding House was originally constructed to house the factory engineer and his family. The house was subsequently extended to provide housing for the factory workers.
- The Clark Boarding House was constructed using oversized glazed ceramic bricks manufactured at the Clark pottery.
