A Mission in the City

A Mission in the City is a project on Auckland’s Hobson Street that includes part retention of the 1852 Prince of Wales Hotel, a new 16-storey accommodation and social services building, and a new public square between the proposed building and St Matthew’s-in-the-City, a Category I Historic Place.

The preparation of a heritage assessment of the 1852 hotel guided the design team towards an informed conservation and adaptation process. Our ongoing involvement in the project included review of concept drawings and assessment of effects of the proposed work against existing values. Archifact – architecture & conservation ltdalso offered support at design management meetings and at urban design panel presentations.
