Summer Street

This timber building on Summer Street sits within the Residential 1 historic character zone. It was originally designed as a single residence and is estimated to have been constructed in the early part of the twentieth century.

It was discovered through the preparation of a heritage assessment that the house has undergone extensive alteration resulting in the loss of much of the original fabric of value. There is insufficient original documentation or building archaeology remaining to restore the building authentically. The assessment also found the relationship of the existing house to the street to be atypical to the common and collective character of the area.

Following the review of a three-unit development proposal for the subject site, expert evidence was prepared to support the resource consent application for the proposed work consent was granted.
