ranfurly retirement
village

The Ranfurly retirement village was established in 1903 as the Veterans Home at the suggestion of Lord Ranfurly, then the Governor General of New Zealand. It was considered a place of privilege. The inhabitants were pensioned servicemen who had earned the privilege of living there by fighting for their country. The existing buildings, building interiors and site surrounds are scheduled and protected in the Auckland City District Plan as a Category B heritage building. Heritage assessments of the buildings and landscape were prepared to aid the design team to produce an informed development proposal for the place.

Ongoing consultation has been undertaken with the Heritage Department of Auckland City Council. Archifact peer reviewed the proposed master plan, provided expert evidence for the resource consent application and reviewed conditions of the resource consent.
