Architecture and conservation to us means the considered response to the context of a place. This includes the people and elements, tangible and intangible qualities of that place and those particular characteristics that give it distinctiveness, significance and meaning. This, we believe, is as relevant to new architecture as it is to the significance of existing.
We believe that existing buildings and structures are not places for experimentation. In conserving these places we look to apply traditional, well proven technologies to each project.
We accept the patina on building fabric where this is not detrimental to its stability and life as a natural part of the history and aging of a place. Similarly, we recognise and accept the multiplicity of layers that accrue over time as contributing to the total significance of particular places and reflect their distinctiveness and meaning.
Our role is to realise exceptional responses to places of value by finding appropriate, sustainable and viable futures.
Conservation to us means: history, life, sustainability and future.
