Conservation of Logan’s Classic Yacht Thelma

Archifact is currently involved in the conservation of a number of classic Logan yachts. In collaboration with MSPhotography Archifact has documented the conservation of ‘Thelma’, a classic yacht built by the Logan Bros. ‘Thelma’ had been built in 1897 for Jagger Bros. in Auckland. The keel cutter was launched in 1898 and is the largest yacht the Logan Bros. built, she measures 60 feet.

The yacht has a three-skin diagonal kauri hull, a feature that has become typical of Logan boats. Although she had gone through rough times, the yacht survived and is now conserved to take her new skipper, Tony Blake, and his crew out on the waters for the next 100 years. She saw a number of owners in her time and now belongs to the Classic Yachts Charitable Trust. The Trust conserved her over the last 12 months and she has been launched again in December 2007.
